Ginny Layne

Virginia "Ginny" Underwood Layne, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Ginny was born June 7, 1923, in Hopkinsville, Ky., to the late Lermond Orlando Underwood and Kathleen Johnson Underwood. In 1953 she and her husband moved to Copperhill, Tenn., where he practiced medicine and she reared her children as a fulltime wife and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville, GA/Copperhill Tenn., the Prime Timers choral group, the Women's Medical Auxiliary, and a volunteer for the American Heart Association and numerous other community activities. In 2003 she and her husband moved to the Chattanooga area. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. J.T. Layne of Ooltewah; daughter, Claire (Bud) Peacock, of Ooltewah; sons, Charles (Amy) Layne, of Franklin, Tenn., and Howel (Laura) Layne, of Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren, Noah Layne, of Franklin, Tenn., Christie Dobson, of Meadow Vista, Calif., Allison (Shane) Roberson, of Signal Mountain, Molly Layne, of Kennesaw, Ga., Elizabeth Peacock, of Chattanooga; great-granddaughters Piper, Baylee and Tessa Roberson, of Signal Mountain. A private graveside service and burial will be in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
