James Bales Sr.

James Patrick "Pat" Bales Sr., 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 1, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was a graduate of Brainerd High School and received an art degree from the University of Chattanooga and his architectural degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Pat worked as an architect and owned his own firm, Pat Bales Architect and Associates for 37 years. He was an honest hardworking, self-made business man that was highly respected by his clients and colleagues. Pat was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. He was a faithful follower of Christ and was a member of Rossville Church of Christ. Pat was a very talented artist and potter with a dry wit that was beloved by most. Pat adored his wife of 47 years, Sherre, as well as his three children and five grandchildren. He spent most of his free time drawing, playing baseball, and listening to music with his grandchildren. Pat was a very generous man and always willing to help others in need. He will be loved and cherished always. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Stella Bales. Pat is survived by his loving wife, Sherre; their children, Patrick Bales (Amy), Shelly Stephens (Wade) and Sheila Newsome (Bill); his five grandchildren, Madeline Bales, Ben and Will Stephens, Nash and Cooper Newsome; brothers and sisters, Joe Bales (Rachel), Gary Bales (Judy), Dennis Bales (June), Rodney Bales (Marilyn), Shirley Patterson (Barry), Glenda Meadows (Joe), Yvonne West; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Rossville Church of Christ on Wednesday, June 4, at noon. The family will receive visitors fro 5-8 p.m. today, June 3, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 4, from 11 a.m.-noon at Rossville Church of Christ at 1100 McFarland Ave., Rossville, Ga. Donations may be made to Martin Boyd Christian Home. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Chattanooga for the excellent care and loving support.
