Jesse Hammontree

Jesse Franklin "Frank" Hammontree, 78, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014. He was born in Chickamauga, Ga., to the late Jesse Mathis and Ruth Holcombe Hammontree. He had lived his childhood in Chickamauga where he was a graduate of the Class of 1954 of Gordon Lee High School. He was a member of The National Honors Society in 1954. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1958 and a B.S. degree in Engineering of Mechanics in 1960. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp., during the Cuban Crisis from 1960 - 1962. While in the United States Marine Corp, he served as Captain. He graduated first in his flight class at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He worked with the NASA program in Huntsville, AL. He retired from the Lockhead Corporation where he was a engineer and programmer. He was a member of Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church in Chickamauga. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother: Lilla Holcombe who raised him after his parents died at an early age. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Robinson Hammontree, of Sandy Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Chris Marsh; sons, John and David Hammontree, grandchildren: Jack, Ruth and Rachel Marsh all of the Atlanta area, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church in Chickamauga with Minister: Rick Maeser.
