Eva Knab

Eva Knab, 79, of Chattanooga passed away Monday, June 2, 2014. She had previously lived in Granville, Tenn., but had resided in Chattanooga for over 15 years. She was a Registered Nurse having attended Tennessee Tech at the age of 59 to receive her B.S.N, where she made the Deans list, played saxophone in the marching band and orchestra, and won essay contests earning trips to conventions and a two week trip to Madrid, Spain. Eva was an Ordained Minister and served as Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator with Avalon Hospice, formerly known as Trinity Hospice. Eva led a life of service having been very active in the American Red Cross Organization; she was nominated for Red Cross Disaster Volunteer Hometown Hero in 2011 by the Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross. From the years of 1988-2010 she responded to 32 major Red Cross disasters, including volunteering as a Health Services Coordinator during 9/11, serving as Officer for the 9/11 memorial in 2002, and working as a medical volunteer during Hurricane Gustav. She also traveled to Guatemala 16 times on medical missions and was currently serving as Volunteer Minister offering weekly Bible Studies at the Life Care Center of Hixson. Her unselfish giving to others will be greatly missed. Survivors include three sons, Raymond Elmore, Jackson Knab and Robert Knab; three daughters, Sherry Wade, Angela Emerton and Pamela (Michael) Johnson; one brother, Rod Troyer; and two sisters, Pearl Crobaugh and Rhoda Alford; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born to the late Simon and Minnie Troyer and was preceded in death by one child, Nancy Van Riper; grandson, Joseph Van Riper and three siblings. In honoring her wishes, Eva will be promoting the lives of others by donating her remains to medical research through the Genesis Program at the Medical Education Research Institute, an anatomical teaching and research facility in Memphis. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. today, June 6, at the Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Carol Harrison officiating.
