Hampton Roberts, 90, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. He was born on Sept. 5, 1923 in Columbia, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Roberts Sr. and Mattie Groom Roberts; son, Hampton David Roberts Jr.; daughters, Alfreda Ann Davis, Nancy Dolo; brothers, Matthew Roberts Jr., Andrew Roberts and David Roberts; sister, Isabella Bonner. Hampton Roberts is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Bernice Holloway Roberts; sons, Danny Roberts, Matthew (Willie) Roberts, Maxwell (Thesseleaner) Roberts; daughters, Jeanette (Johnny) Stegall, Geneva Stubbs (fianc, Joe Nathan Maffett Sr.), Marlene Street, Jo Ann Montgomery, Wilma Upshur; brothers, Bosie (Nell) Roberts, Henry Roberts; sisters, Mary Belton, Georganna Belton, Rosa Lee Champion; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Interment in Highland Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
