Betty Lumpkin, of Ooltewah, was taken home by God on Thursday, June 5, 2014, to be His special angel. Born in Anniston, Ala., Betty became a 52-year resident of Chattanooga along with her surviving husband of 60 years, Roy "Pete" Lumpkin Jr. Betty attended Auburn University and received a degree from UTC in secondary education and a Masters degree from MTSU in Aerospace Education. She served more than 40 years in the Hamilton County school system. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her mother, Mabel A. Ogburn; son, John D. Lumpkin; grandchildren, Chad H. Lumpkin, Sean D. Lumpkin, Jenna K. Lumpkin, and Josh K. Lumpkin; and cousins, Martha Akers and Lamar Pace.
