Betty Lumpkin

Betty Lumpkin, of Ooltewah, was taken home by God on Thursday, June 5, 2014, to be His special angel. Born in Anniston, Ala., Betty became a 52-year resident of Chattanooga along with her surviving husband of 60 years, Roy "Pete" Lumpkin Jr. Betty attended Auburn University and received a degree from UTC in secondary education and a masters degree from MTSU in Aerospace Education. She served more than 40 years in the Hamilton County school system. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her mother, Mabel A. Ogburn; son, John D. Lumpkin; grandchildren, Chad H. Lumpkin, Sean D. Lumpkin, Jenna K. Lumpkin and Josh K. Lumpkin; and cousins, Martha Akers and Lamar Pace. A memorial service honoring Bettys Christian walk will be conducted at 7 p.m. today, June 10, at Hickory Valley Christian Church, 6605 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. In lieu of flowers the family suggest a gift to Hickory Valley Christian Church or to Mountain View Christian Church, 9118 Snow Hill Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
