Dr. Chris Blevins

Dr. Jerry Christopher Blevins, 64, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Vanderbilt Medical Center of complications from a heart transplant. The son of the late Walter and Mary Alma Jackson Blevins, Chris was a native of South Pittsburg and moved to Kalamazoo, Mich., in his later high school years. He graduated from Hackett Catholic High School and returned to Tennessee where he graduated from MTSU and then the University of Tennessee at Memphis where he received his M.D. in family medicine. After completing his residency in Huntsville, Ala., he operated a family practice in Dickson, Tenn., for 15 years and has had a family practice in Bridgeport, Ala. for more than 20 years. Chris was an avid Atlanta Braves and UT Vols fan. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Alexander Blevins; and two sisters, Rose Shelton and Mary Margaret Semmes. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Blevins; stepdaughter, Laura (Jeremy) Johnson; stepson, Christopher Wolfe; daughter-in-law, Alice Blevins; grandchildren, Harper and Charlie Blevins; and brother, Larry Blevins. Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. CDTtoday, June 10, 2014 with Father David Yancey officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from noon today until service time at the funeral home.
