Barbara Gilbert Bailey, 75, of Red Bank, passed on Friday, June 20, 2014, at her home following a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, John T. "Ding-Ding" and Christine "Mua" Gilbert. Born in Shreveport, La., she moved to Chattanooga, as a child and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1956. She was a loving mother, grandmother and teacher. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church for 63 years and a longtime member of the adult choir. She taught Sunday school in the Children's Department and taught 4 and 5 year olds in preschool. She retired from Red Bank Baptist Pre-School after 24 years of faithful service. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 57 years, Gerald R. Bailey; sons, John (Brenda) Bailey, Bob (Suzy) Bailey, Tom (Teri) Bailey and Jim (Missy) Bailey; sister, Debbie (Barry) Odom; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. Thanks to special friends Quantella Robinson, and Chattanooga Hospice Team members; Jennifer Rollins, Sharon Hobbs, Christy Bonner and Missy Zensen. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Red Bank Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with Dr. Fred A. Steelman and Bill Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
