Emmett Garner

Emmett Garner, 81, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 in Chattanooga. He was born on Nov. 22, 1932. He graduated from Howard High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953. He retired from General Motors on June 21, 1991 after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Clara Garner; sister, Elizabeth Flood; grandson, Jamaha Garner; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Garner. Memories to be cherished of Emmett by the mother of his children, Kathryn Garner; daughter, Valerie Garner; son, Dexter, Maurice, Sheldon and Darryl Garner; grandchildren, Katrina Boykin, Shavonne Garner, Darielle Brinkley and Michael Garner; great-grandchildren, Jaeln Boykin, Shawn and Talia Garner; nieces, Michelle Geter and Karen Flood; loving cousins, Mildred Hicks and Thelma Halloway; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Union Grove Baptist Church. Interment at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at National Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
