Margaret Parmley

Margaret Graham Parmley, 84, passed away March 6, 2014. Preceding her in death include her husband, Carl Parmley; parents, George W. and Minnie Graham; two brothers, Ralph and Carl James Graham; and her sister Ruth G. Combs. Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Jane (Chris) Varnell and step- daughter, Linda (Al) Underwood; granddaughters, Amelia (Matt) Pruett, Christina Varnell and three great-grandchildren, Andy, Kyle and Abigail. After graduating from Red Bank High School, Mrs. Parmley entered Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing in 1947 and graduated and received her registered nurse certification in 1950. Devoting many, many years to care-giving, some of her nursing assignments include the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge, Erlanger Medical Center where she served as head nurse in the Emergency Room, and the nurse for the Hamilton County Jail under the direction of HQ Evatt. While nursing was Mrs. Parmley's primary profession; she was also owner and operator of Parmley's Children's Shop, a licensed realtor with Huffaker Realty, coordinator for the Morgan-Scott donation center, and a 50-year volunteer at Bethel Bible Village where she also served on their board. Mrs. Parmley was an active member for many years at both Ashland Terrace Christian Church and Red Bank United Methodist where her parents were charter members. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the Shaw-Murray Sunday school class and the Young at Heart group. Travel was also a favorite pastime having visited most of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, 26 different countries, and sailing on 29 cruises. Visitation will be at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace 4-7 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace with Reverends Jeff Lambert and Brad McDowell officiating. Interment will follow Chattanooga Memorial Park following the service. The family respectively asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. Parmley's name to her beloved charity, Bethel Bible Village.
