Norma Barker

Norma Johnson Barker, 81, a lifelong resident of Signal Mountain, passed away quietly in the arms of her loving husband the morning of March 8, 2014 following a battle with dementia. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and was employed by DuPont early in her life. She enjoyed traveling and camping. She and her husband also cherished their time with the Dixie Daisies Square Dance Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Johnson; sister, Gloria Thomas; and grandson, Joshua West. Survivors include husband Byron "B.F." Barker; son, David (Jennifer) Barker; daughter, Dawn (Charles) Phillips; son, Stephen (Sherri) Barker, all of Signal Mountain; grandchildren, Alana (Luciano) Zoanni, of Chattanooga, Daniel (Alexandria) Barker, of Santa Monica, Calif., John (Tammie) Barker, of Signal Mountain, Betsy (Marian) Axente, of Sunnyvale, Cal., Thomas Barker, of Athens, Tenn., Michael Barker, of Signal Mountain; one great- granddaughter, Madeleine Barker of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister, Marilyn (Knox) McCollum, of Signal Mountain and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-7 p.m. today, March 11, and on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
