Harvey McCoy

Harvey Edwin McCoy, 65, of East Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, on his birthday. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he was the son of the late Harvey Wallace and Gladys McCoy and was also preceded in death by a brother, Roland McCoy. Harvey, who was an avid photographer, was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Raised in the East Lake area he was considered the Class Historian for his treasured collection of East Lake memorabilia. He graduated from Central High School in 1968 where he played football and ran track. He then attended MTSU and later graduated from UTC. He also attended Chattanooga State to further his education in computers. He loved children and coached the Swafford Drug Fireflies to the 1981 Girls City Series Fast Pitch Championship for eight years old and under and later the Epicurean Dynamites. He was also active in the Boy Scouts Program where he mentored his son to the rank of Eagle Scout. He was employed with Koch Foods as a USDA Inspector. He will be missed by his family, friends and co-workers who loved his kind, generous and caring ways. He was a member of Stanley Heights Baptist Church in East Ridge. Survivors include his loving wife, of 44 years, Elizabeth; two sons, John McCoy, Talking Rock, Ga., and Stephen McCoy, East Ridge; two daughters, Amy (Robert) McCoy Turner, Franklin, Tenn., and Margie (Jason) McCoy Waller, East Ridge; six grandchildren, Ashton and Reagan Turner, Robbie and Meredith Waller and Jack and Ralin McCoy; sister Beatrice McCoy Norman; brother, Wayne (Carmen) McCoy; sister-in-law, Norma McCoy; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanley Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Alexander and Pastor Brad Blanton officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East. Active pallbearers will be Bob Turner, Jason Waller, Roland McCoy Jr., Bobby Patterson, Zack Stephens, Jim Brackett, Eddie Talley and Larry Clarkson. Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends at Koch Foods and John Miller. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church before the service. Please share your memories at ChattanoogaEastChapel.com.
