Vernia Dean Ray, 52, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, in a local hospital. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel Ray Sr.; and stepfather, James Curtis Sr. Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Ray Sr. (Konda Jones) and Tracy (Anna) Ray; daughter, Sheila (Kenneth) Robinson; five grandchildren; mother, Mary Curtis, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Nathaniel (Elizabeth) Ray Jr., Kelvin (Mary) Ray, Ernest (Sharon) Ray, Daryl (Angela) Ray, all of Chattanooga, James Curtis Jr., Jeffery Curtis and Joey Curtis, all of Calhoun, Ga.; sisters, Ann (Larry) Gilbert, Loria Hall (Gardel Johnson), Patricia (Leroy) Garner, Janice Billups, LaRhonda (Rodney) Boston, Carol Ray, all of Chattanooga, and Theresa Heard of Calhoun; devoted niece, Quantella Robinson; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins; other relatives and friends. Visitation is from 6-7 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service is at noon Thursday in the chapel with Pastor Damien Wigfall as the eulogist. Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery.
