Former Monroe resident John David Evans of Hixon, TN went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 1:30 a.m. He had been admitted to the Memorial North Park Hospital in Chattanooga and passed shortly after admission. He had been in poor health the last year. John born in Monroe, Mich. on May 28, 1955, was one of 10 children from the union of the late Richard Harrison and late Mary Beulah (McCreary) Evans. Johnny as family and close friends knew him, resided in Hixson with his wife Sharon. He had recently retired from the Sulzer Nuclear Pump Division of Chattanooga where he held the position of quality control specialist. Johnny had quite the storied working career where he worked in the areas of sales, engineering, pressure vessel code work, and quality control. His work resulted in his residing in Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Washington, and Saint Croix (US Virgin Islands). Johnny attended Monroe Public Schools and was a graduate of Monroe High School. Johnny started playing guitar at about nine years of age, a passion that remained a major part of his entire life. During his time in Saint Croix Johnny played and sang weekly in a local blues group. He was an avid cook and enjoyed spoiling friends and family with his gourmet meals. Above all else, Johnny cherished his own family and the two grandchildren, Cameron and Kane Fox; in their eyes, Johnny was known as PaPaw. Never one lost for words, Johnny could talk to anyone about anything and could tell a joke about as good as any professional. He was a self-processed "class clown" throughout his junior and senior high years and was proud of it. Anyone that met him knew him to be the life of the party. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sharon; grand children, Cameron and Kane Fox; brothers, Charles D. Evans (Doris), and Gary L. Evans (Margie), of Monroe, Roger D. Evans (Cindy) , of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Steve M. Evans (Lani), of Woodstock, Ga. John's sisters include Mary F. Fowler (John), of Monroe, Patsy E. Maigret (Herman), of Ottawa Lake, Mich., and Judy L. Haynes (Rick), of Faragut, Tenn. He is also survived by a multitude of nephews and nieces and a plethora of grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Johnny was preceded in death by parents Richard H. and Mary B. (McCreary) and brothers Richard H. Evans Jr. and infant Robert Benton Evans. Services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday March 23, 2014 , at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, with visitation 4-6 p.m. Sunday.
