Lena P. Hicks, 73, was a native of Chattanooga, departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2014. Ms. Hicks was born Nov. 18, 1940. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Benjamin and Nicey Flippin. Preceding her in death were both parents, Angus Benjamin and Nicey Flippin; her husband of 34 years; Mr. Eddie Hicks; two brothers, Albert and Eugene Flippin; two sisters, Effie Mae Smith and Minnie Luella Flippin; and one daughter, Donnetta Yates. Lena gave her life to Christ many years ago and served in various capacities within the local church. Two of her favorite positions were as Deaconess and a faithful choir member. It was not unusual to find Ms. Lena praising the Lord, while playing the piano and singing his praises at any given time. Ms. Lena was the cornerstone of her family. She loved any occasion that would bring all the family together and give her the opportunity to brag on them; rather it be bragging about the love and joy she felt from her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Thanksgiving had become one of her favorite holidays with the family. She looked forward to seeing what each years theme would bring, and could not wait to see her grandson on the turntable, particularly when he would play "that ole Motown sound" that she loved. As such a spiritual woman, Ms. Lena loved knowing that God had called two of her children, as well as their spouses and one grandson to be Ordained Ministers of the Gospel. Her favorite scripture was Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, two sons, Lonnie Hood Sr., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Apostle Darryle Hood Sr. (Evangelist Valerie), Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three daughters, Rev. Deborah Hood-Rudolph (Evangelist Michael), Acworth, Ga.; Linda Hood, Chattanooga, and LaShaunda McIntyre (Eric), Chattanooga; 19 grandchildren, Cornelius (Stacy), Chantel, Anthony, Shawn, Juan, Keanna (Mike Jr.), Jacob, Timothy (Mia), Kenneth (Quita), Van (Jackie), Aundra, Rev. Wendell (Keisha), Reginald, Erica (Mike), Alexandra, Darryle Jr., Ivory, Erika, Eric Jr.; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Benjamin Flippin, Chattanooga; one sister, Esther Daniels, Chattanooga; a very special and devoted niece, Veronica Powell, Dorchester, Mass.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
