Monty Millard

Monty Nichols Millard, 62, of Red Bank, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 in a local hospital. He was a son of the late Calvin and Willodene Nichols Millard. Monty attended Red Bank Elementary and graduated from The Baylor School in 1969. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S. in political science. Monty earned a graduate degree from the University of Virginia in retail bank management in 1982. Monty served 10 years on the Red Bank Commission, including one term as mayor. He was a founding member of the Red Bank Chamber of Commerce and served three times as its president. Monty was a retail and commercial banker for 37 years, first with Pioneer Bank, and then First Tennessee Bank. He served a term on the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA). Monty was on the board of the North River Civic Center for over 10 years and was a member of the Red Bank Historical Society. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Survivors include his children, Nichole and Lauren Millard and Monty Nichols Millard Jr., all of Red Bank; brother, Michael (Susie) Millard, of Chattanooga; nieces, Molly (Zack) Connolly, of Chattanooga and Mary (Ewing) Ballard, of Chattanooga; nephew, Nick Millard, of Chattanooga and great-nephew, Jayme Ballard, of Chattanooga. Pallbearers include Mayor John Roberts, Mayor Jim Coppinger, Howard Cotter, Pat Brown, Lester Barnette and Jimmy Mathis. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Red Bank Dixie Youth. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. today at Lane Funeral Home with Doctor Fred Steelman officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
