Winifred "Winnie" Noonan Clay, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, March 22, 2014. Born in Syracuse, N.Y. on November 13, 1932, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret Coyne. Winnie was a homemaker first and foremost. She lived in countries across the world with her husband and four children, but wherever the family lived, she made it "home." She was very creative. The house and its dcor were her medium of art. She was passionate for peace and justice and followed world events avidly. She was an activist, writing letters to the President and lawmakers to make her voice heard. She is survived by her husband of 55 years and the love of her life, Robert E. Clay; and by her children, Patricia Clay (John McQuaid), of Silver Spring, Md., Paul Clay (Chang Jin Lee), of New York, N.Y., John Clay (Elizabeth Clay) of Minneapolis, Minn., Kristin Clay (Paul Setaro) of Washington, DC; five grandchildren; and by her sister, Betsy Coyne, of Sewanee, Tenn., Patricia Cooney, of Yarmouth, Mass. and William Coyne, of East Syracuse, N.Y.
