Herbert Fields

Herbert "Herb" Hunt Fields, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in Dalton. Herb received his degree in Geology at Berea, Ky. Afterwards, he worked for many years as an engineer for the Corp of Engineers which eventually brought him to Georgia to help construct Carters Dam which gave Murray County beautiful Carters Lake. He later worked for the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, Pa., and West Virginia before starting his own business, Fields Engineering. He was also an award-winning musician playing guitar, mandolin, and bass as well as a superb comedian and athlete. Many will remember him as a member of the Fields of Grass Band. Born in Eastern Kentucky, He was preceded in death by his parents, Roma Hunt and Emzy Fields; and one brother, Lloyd Fields. He is survived by his wife, Amaryllis "Amy" Tarpley Fields; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Fatima Fields, of Greensboro, Ga., and Mike and Tracy Fields, of Jackson, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Kenneth Odum, of Eton, Ga.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; special niece and nephew, Debbie Kuhn and David Fields, of Lousiville, Ky.; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Fields, of Louisville. A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate the life of Herb Fields will be held later on in the year-announcement to be made at a later date.
