Shirley Rothenberg passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, in a local healthcare facility. Shirley had a 52 year loving marriage with Jack who passed away in 2008. She moved to Garden Plaza at Greenbrier Cove in 2009 where she established a busy life. She became an active member of the Jewish community and could be found at the Jewish Federation every week where she made many loving friends. Shirley became a member of B'nai Zion Congregation. After moving to Tennessee, Shirley took up many hobbies and activities including woodworking, needlepoint and knitting. She was an avid reader all her life. Shirley is the last surviving sibling of seven children whose parents immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s. Shirley and Jack lived on Long Island, New York, until 1963 when they moved to Atlanta and established a successful retail business. In 1979 they retired to Merritt Island, Fla. Shirley is survived by sister-in-law, Lillian Goodman, of Atlanta; sons, Jeffrey (Malia) and Jerry (Amy) Rothenberg; grandchildren, Jason, Tiffany (Clint), Adam and Elena; and great grandson, Jacob. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rabbi Susan Tendler officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of Chattanooga, The Wounded Warrior Project or the Jewish Federation of Chattanooga.
