Christie Anderson

Christie Rose Anderson, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, April 26, 2014, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 29, 1937, She is originally from East Stone Gap, Va. and spent most of her adult life in Florida and Tennessee before moving to the Smith Mountain Lake area. She graduated from East Stone Gap High School in 1956 and Virginia Intermont College in 1958, earning a degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse spending most of her career at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. She enjoyed several years of her retirement serving as a part-time school nurse in the Franklin County School System. Christie Rose was well known for her love of family, friends and pets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Stone; and their two sons, Donald and Danny; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Gembach. In 2001, she married a former high school classmate and moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Va., where she embraced many new acquaintances and friends. She is survived by her husband and friend, Dan C. Anderson; and stepson, Rob (Susan and Chris) Anderson; two brothers, Jack J. Gembach and Bill (Rue) Gembach; nephews, Jay (Suzanne) Gembach and Billy (Debbie) Gembach; nieces, Kellie (Brad) Ivens and Beth Gembach; great-nieces, Holly (Daniel) Maddox, Alyssa, Alaina, Kristin, and Leigha Gembach; and great-nephews, Cody, Riley, and Clay Maggard; special friends, Cassie Tice and sons Jeffrey and Christopher and Sheila Wells. Family received friends for a Memorial Service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel in Bedford, Va., with Liz Gapp officiating.
