Edith Standefer

Edith Standefer, 102, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at her home. She was a charter Member of Kingspoint Baptist Church (a mission of Oakwood Baptist Church) and had been employed as a seamstress for 25 years. She was a woman of strong faith and had a deep love for God and her family. She has often said that her faith has sustained her through the years. Mrs. Standefer was a member of the Chattanooga Harrison Chapter #56 of the Order of the Eastern Star and had volunteered as a Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, D.L. "Doc" and Mary Jane McCamish; husband, John Leon Standefer; daughter, Bobbie Sue Grant; two sons-in-law, Charles H. Stansifer and John William Grant; a grandson, Ed ONeal III; and seven siblings. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Stansifer and Polly (Ed Jr.) ONeal; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jennie Akins. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga, June Wilson, and her caregivers, Renee Long, Doris Sellers, Tammy Bennett and Vickie Wilson for their love and care. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road with the Rev. Timothy Marrs, the Rev. Mike Fuhrman and the Rev. Dewayne Roberson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kingspoint Bible Class. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kingspoint Baptist Church, Bethel Bible Village or Hospice of Chattanooga.
