Doris Keith Howard, 84, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at her home in Los Angeles, Calif., with her faithful children at her side. She was the daughter of the late Lillian and William "Bill" Keith. Doris joined St. Paul AME Church at a young age and later united with Warren Chapel AME Church. She attended Calvin Donaldson and graduated in the Howard class of 1947. Doris attended Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C., and received a BA and master degrees at T.S.U. She was a golden member of her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Her teaching career began in this city. She was serving as vice principal at retirement culminating 37 1/2 years with the El-Monte city school district. Doris volunteered for many worthy causes and faithfully contributed monthly to her favorite charities. Preceding her in death were parents; husband, Clarence Howard; brothers, Ralph and Clarence "Bubba" Keith; and many other dear relatives. Survivors are son and daughter, John (Wendell) and LaKeeta E. Howard, Los Angeles; Patricia Blackwell, Claudette Keith, Gloria Willlam, Gwendolyn Moore, Ethel J. McGhee, Nance Perry, Mildred Keith, class mates and friends, all of which are from Chattanooga. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Wilshire United Methodist Church, Los Angeles, Calif.
