Stephen Crawford

Stephen Lewis Crawford, 58, formerly of Cleveland, Tenn., died Saturday, May 3, 2014 in a local Chattanooga health care facility. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School the Class of 1975, where he was on the basketball team. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tenn. Stephen served in the United States Army where he became a certified carpenter, and was a well-known maintenance and handy man. He was the son of the late Charles Crawford and Alice Nell Woods-Crawford, he was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Addie Crawford; grandfather, Rev. D.T. Crawford; and uncle, Rev. Augustus Crawford. Survivors include one son, Demetrius Montrel Crawford, of Chattanooga; aunts, Mildred Bradford, Lilly Woods, both of Cleveland, Tenn., and Martha Ann Crawford, of Georgetown, Tenn.; uncles, Booker T. ( Elizabeth) Woods, Chancel (Mary) Woods, Howard (Estella) Woods, and Harold Woods, all of Georgetown, Tenn. Special care giver, Orlando (Delia) Crawford, of Cleveland, Tenn.; and special friend Catherin Anderson Hodges, of Chattanooga. Special thanks to Alex and Jan Crawford, of Cleveland, the Wells family, the Thompson family, Oggs family, Smith family, Bryant family, the Kennedy family, the Woods family and the many cousins and other relatives and friends, and the friends at Mary Walker Towers in Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 8, 2014, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor, Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Visitation by friends will begin after noon today at M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home, 165 Lang St., Cleveland.
