Clifford Hobbs

LaFAYETTE Clifford Lee Hobbs, 61, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was born on June 4, 1952, in Chickamauga, Ga., to the late Harvey Clarence and Nettie Mae Millican Hobbs. During his childhood, he lived in the Cedar Grove area of McLemores Cove before moving to LaFayette in 1964. He graduated from LaFayette High School in 1971 and attended Walker Technical Institute. He was a longtime employee of area Red Food/ Bi-Lo, Winn Dixie and Walmart grocery chains where he greatly enjoyed his work and made many friends. He was of the Christian faith and attended LaFayette Presbyterian Church. Clifford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He cherished his family and friends and always had a smile on his face. His gentle spirit and kind heart were also evidenced by his compassion and care for feline friends needing a new and loving home. He enjoyed fishing in Gordon Pond and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by his brother, J.W. Hobbs; father-in-law, Walter Harris; great-niece, Paige Graham; and brother-in-law, G.G. Watson. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Glenda Kay Harris Hobbs; daughters, Heather Hobbs (Vinson Lee) Holloway, and Dr. Hollie Hobbs (Dr. Joshua) Fowler; grandchildren, Alex and Daniel Holloway, and Hayden Fowler; sister, Jeanette Watson; sister-in-law, Anne Hobbs; mother-in-law, Ruth Harris; brother-in-law, Dennis (Tina) Harris; and nieces, Penni Graham, Melanie Watson, Patrice (Will) Glass and Melissa (Jay) Lemons. Four great-nieces; five great-nephews; and several cousins also survive. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at LaFayette Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ken Waddell and Rev. Cathy Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Will Glass, Dennis Harris, Ronnie Holloway, Chris Jenkins, Jay Lemons and Jim Millican. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, May 9, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to LaFayette Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1193, LaFayette, GA 30728, or to the American Cancer Society. The arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
