Kenneth R. Rogers, 69, died peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014. He is survived by his three children, Arlene Thompson, Sharon M. Milling, and Collin Rogers; his grandchildren, Ashton L. McMullan, Amelia Milling, Elka Thompson, and Collier Thompson; brother, Bud Rogers; sisters, Nelda Faye Wilson and Carolyn Park; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Pat Rogers, his wife of 32 years; his parents, J.C. and Jewell Rogers and an infant sister. He was a quiet, shy man who loved very deeply, and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Rumor has it that "Pa" was the best grandfather ever. He was an extremely giving man, determined to feed anyone who walked in his door, and willing to help anyone who needed help. Not caring for crowds of most any size, he did not regularly attend church, but he was a Believer who shared his belief in Jesus salvation with certain family members and friends. He worked at Combustion Engineering and Dowlen Construction, and was a craftsman who, among other things, built beautiful fireplace mantels. Other than his family, he had two great loves: flying and music. He owned and piloted an ultralight aircraft for several years, and passed an enjoyment of flying on to his granddaughters, Ashton and Amelia. He loved music, and could play at least eight different instruments, by ear and mostly self-taught, beginning with a toy accordion that he began playing when he was three years old. While he passed his love of music on to his children, he kept his ability to play any instrument he laid his hands on to himself. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea. He was also a Mason and was a member of Hixson Lodge #727 F&AM. Family and friends said goodbye and shared their memories of him at a private service on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The family would like to thank the staff at Erlanger and Amedisys Hospice for their care during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Harvest Christian Academy for the Deaf, 1314 Old Three Notch Road, Ringgold, Georgia 30736, the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or Angel Flight Soars, 2000 Airport Road, Suite 227, DeKalb Peachtree Airport, Atlanta, GA 30341.
