Rev. James Shannon

Rev. James Wheeler Shannon, 86, of Salisbury, N.C., died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Salisbury. He was a longtime resident of Hixson and Dayton, Tenn., before moving to Salisbury. He was a pastor for over 50 years, serving as pastor of Walnut Grove Full Gospel Church for over 20 years, and was a barber in Soddy-Daisy for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He was preceded in death by wife, Pauline Morgan Shannon; parents, Sanford H. and Mary Lena Colston Shannon; three sisters, Mary Ruth Scates, Allie Carlisle and Betty Smith; two brothers, Allen and Carl Shannon. Survivors include son, James "Jim" S. Shannon, Arkansas City, Kan.; daughter, Wand Green, Soddy-Daisy; sister, Flora Parsons, Soddy-Daisy; very beloved friend and caregiver, Jeri Beck, Salisbury; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Suttles and Speaker Jeri Beck officiating. Burial in Rhea Memory Gardens.
