Craig Hampton

Mortimer Craig Hampton passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by family and loved ones. He was a retired member of the U.S. Army and National Guard, and had also served in the U.S. Air Force. During his military service he was employed as an accountant and auditor for Sears. He was a member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Atlanta and attended Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg, Tenn. Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his parents, Percivel and Lillie Jones Hampton; brother, Kendall Hampton; brothers-in-law, Elbert, Harold and J. L. Smith; and sister-in-law, Louise Beene. He is survived by his wife, Beverly M. Hampton, Jasper; son, David Craig Hampton, Lutz, Fla.; daughter, Sandra Louise Smith, Atlanta; granddaughters, Sarah Smith, Brooklyn, N.Y., Courtney Smith, Atlanta, Baylee Hampton, Lutz, Fla.; grandsons, Tyler and Justin Hampton; Lutz, FL; stepchildren, Carol VanAllman Hopper, Jerry (Angie) VanAllman, Jasper, Tenn., Johnny (Phyllis) VanAllman, Tony (Sondra) VanAllman and Terry "Pokey" VanAllman, all of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; 10 step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Mirenda, Madison, Tenn.; and brother-in-law, Gary (Jennifer) Smith. Funeral services with full military honors will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 5 p.m. CDT Tuesday, Sept. 2, with Brother Jim Styers and Brother Chris VanAllman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. CDT until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Parkinson research or a favorite charity.
