Sydney Gribben

RIDGESydney Rolston Gribben, born May 4, 1927 in Menlo, Ga., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, in Oak Ridge. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton. She grew up in Chattanooga, attended Shorter College in Rome, Ga., and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She married William J. Gribben and began a life centered around travel, education, and music. She was a violinist who played as a member of the Oak Ridge Community Orchestra. Preceded in death by her husband, William J. Gribben; parents, Emmett and Clyde Rolston; sister, Peggy R. Smith. Survivors: daughters, Shari Gribben Owens and husband, Gene, of Clinton, Tenn., Lynda Gribben, of San Francisco, Calif.; son, James E. Gribben and wife, Jo Ann, of Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren, Amy Owens Fendley and husband, Scott, of Knoxville, Kelly Owens Goodman and husband, Ted, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., William Patrick Gribben, of Cumming, Ga.; one precious great-grandson, Jacob Carlton Fendley; dear friends, Mary Gutierrez, Mary Kedl; four nephews. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at First Baptist Church of Clinton followed by a reception in the lower auditorium for family and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 268, Clinton, TN 37717 or to the charity/mission of choice.
