Clayburn Wilson

Clayburn Wilson, 80, of the New Zion community, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 1, 2015, at his home. The son of the late Woodrow and Lily McCormack Wilson, he was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County. He was proud to be ordained as a Baptist deacon and later became a member of Cambria Baptist Church. He was equally proud to serve our country in the United States Army for three years and then serving another 17 years in the United States Air Force. After retirement from the Air Force he owned and operated Wilson Brothers Appliance Service In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Mary Wilson; and an infant sister, Virginia Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carrie Runions Wilson of the New Zion community; children, John Wilson and wife Cissy, of Chattanooga, Teresa Wilson, of Charleston, S.C., Jeffrey Wilson and wife Kristi, of Athens; grandchildren, Christopher Rogers and wife Susannah, of Athens, Jesse Rogers, of Etowah, Sara Wilson, of Chattanooga, and Kaylee Wilson, of Athens; great-grandchildren, Ruthie, Addison, Cameron, Daylen, Jackson and Sophie; brother, Charles Wilson, of the New Zion community, and sister, Irene Evans and husband J.C. of the New Zion community. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 4, 2015, at Cambria Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Eddie Rowland officiating. Full military honors and a white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
