Mark Fletcher

Mark Fletcher, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, Aug. 26, 2015. He was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 20, 1928. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Kenneth Fletcher; stepfather, Arvil Henry Pierce; mother, Mary Lillian Beasley Fletcher Pierce; and son, Mark Kenneth Fletcher III. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 64 years, Tressie Eva Williams Fletcher; sisters, Louise and Robbie Fletcher, of Fort Oglethorpe; brothers, Ronald Pierce of Ringgold, and Harold Pierce of Conyers; daughter Patrice Humphrey, of Fort Oglethorpe and son Jeff Fletcher, of LaFayette; grandchildren, Fletcher, Corley, Brynna, and Sarah Beth Humphrey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mark grew up in the Keith community near Ringgold and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Missouri from February 1946 until his honorable discharge in December 1947. He and Tressie were married in December, 1950 and have resided in Fort Oglethorpe since that time. He retired after more than 40 years with the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga, was a charter member of the EPB Employees Credit Union and served as its President from the mid-1970's until his death. Mark and Tressie became charter members of First Baptist Church Fort Oglethorpe in the 1950s, where he began serving as Treasurer and Deacon shortly thereafter and continued until his death. He also faithfully served in a multitude of positions, committees and many other capacities at First Baptist. Throughout his adult life he was active in the Fort Oglethorpe and surrounding communities, beginning with time on the Fort Oglethorpe city council, working with the Post Recreation Association, and after retirement serving on the Catoosa County Commission, Catoosa Recreation Board, Catoosa Citizens & Veterans Memorial, and various other boards and committees. The family requests that contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Legacy Fund at First Baptist Church Fort Oglethorpe, P.O. Box 2125, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742. A celebration of his life will take place 3 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at First Baptist Church Fort Oglethorpe with Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. A private interment will follow at Anderson Cemetery, Ringgold, Ga. The family will receive friends today 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
