Marion Dickerson

Marion "Poopie" Sizer Dickerson, 71, passed in to loving arms of God on Feb. 24, 2015, after seven-year battle with vascular dementia. She passed at the Manor house Assisted Living in Knoxville, Tenn., peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends. Marion "Poopie" as she was known by her childhood friends grew up in Sweetwater, Tenn. Growing up, she loved basketball and was a gifted and tenacious basketball player in high school. She had a difficult childhood, losing her mom at age 10 and her father at age 12. She was raised by her older sister and brother-in-law, Annabelle and Milton Cate. Poopie rose above her difficult early years to raise two kind and loving daughters her proudest accomplishment! Poopie was sweet, kind, tenderhearted, and a treasured mom and grandmother. While our hearts are broken at her passing, and we will forever feel the void she has left behind; we are so blessed to have been her family and so grateful to God for her life. Poopie loved God, her family, all animals and the beach especially walking and collecting seashells. She loved Christmas and collecting ornaments and decorating the house. She loved to shop especially for all things UT Vols. She adored her grandchildren, was so very proud of them and treasured every moment she spent with them. Poopie lived in Chattanooga, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and finally Knoxville. She called Chattanooga home from 1973-1982, Baton Rouge from 1982 until moving to Knoxville in 2009 to be closer to her family. She worked for LHCR in Baton Rouge for 15 years and made many friends there. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran in Chattanooga and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge. Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James L. Dickerson; her mother, Fannie Blevins Sizer; her father, Marion Floyd Sizer; sister and brother-in-law, Annabelle and Milton Cate; stepson, Mark Dickerson. Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Cristi Moser and much loved daughter-in-law Mary Rice, Louisville, Tenn., Shannon Moser Rudd and much loved son-in-law Clifford Rudd; much loved granddaughters, Kelsey Rudd and Maddy Rudd of Cummings, Ga.; stepson, Allen Dickerson and wife Wendy Dickerson; grandsons, Nick Dickerson and Cole Dickerson of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Donna Burris, Raleigh, N.C., and special nephew Joe Cate, Sweetwater, Tenn.; beloved and constant companion Malcolm, the cat, and canine companion Maverick; special lifelong friend, Ruth Moser of Ten Mile, Tenn.; special thanks to pallbearersClifford Rudd, Mickey Meador, Linton Moser and Clinton Moser. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff of Manor House Assisted Living especially Kipper, Carole, Ginny, Ivory, Heather, Chris and Dee for all their wonderful, loving care of mom during the last four years, and Avalon Hospice especially Chaplin Kim Becker, Patty and Jennifer. At her request, Poopie will be laid to rest wearing Tennessee Volunteer Orange. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 4-6 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow in the Kykers Chapel at 6 p.m. Interment and graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 2, in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
