Ginger Turpin

Mary Virginia "Ginger" ONeal Turpin went home to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in a local healthcare facility. Ginger was born July 28, 1933 in Poplarville, Miss. She graduated from Mississippi College in 1955 with a bachelor of arts degree in foreign language and a minor in Library Science. She was the first person to get a Librarian Science degree at Mississippi College. She was a librarian with Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, Miss., for several years and also worked at the Memphis Public Library, in Memphis, Tenn. In 1957, she married Claude Turpin Jr. of Ringgold, Ga., but he passed away in 1992. Mrs. Turpin lived in East Ridge, Tenn., for many years where she was a member of Jones Memorial Methodist Church, and sang in the choir. Ginger was a member and officer of Junior Kosmos Womans Club at one time. She lived in Wichita Falls from 1992-2004. After returning to the North Georgia area in 2004, she joined the Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church, where she loved singing with the members of the Joyful Praise Choir. Ginger loved God and her family. She liked reading, music, dancing, flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds and candles. She also liked to travel, having seen most of the United States and some of Europe. Survivors are sons, Eugene Turpin and wife, Silvia, of Crossville, Tenn., and Martin Turpin and wife, Mireya, of Houston, Texas; grand-daughters, Jennifer Durden and husband, Baron, of Savannah, Ga., Mandy Bushnell and husband, John, of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandson, Daniel Turpin, of Crossville; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Joy and Elizabeth. Funeral services 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Bush officiating. Interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
