Esther Daniels

Esther Daniels, 82, a native of Chattanooga, departed this life Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Ms. Daniels was born April 24, 1933, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Benjamin and Nicey Flippin. Over the years, Esther held various jobs, but was more inclined to own her on business that allowed her the opportunity to do what she loved to do: Care for Others. She spent countless days caring for the children of family members, friends, and anyone who needed her help. Esther always had a door open for people and it did not matter if you needed a place to sleep, food to eat, or a listening ear. Esther embodied the scripture... If you love me, "Feed My Sheep". Esther will be most fondly remembered for her eternal optimism and love that she had for others. She spent most of her life caring for others in her family, devoting such love and attention to her son, Johnny, and then to her brother, Benjamin (Benny). She was a true example of the scripture in Deuteronomy 15:11: For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, "You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land." She understood the joy of helping others by giving of her time and that as the Church we are called to love one another and one way that we do that is by helping others. Esther put her love for others in action. Preceding her in death were her parents, Angus Benjamin and Nicey Flippin; her husband, Mr. Alvin Daniels; two brothers, Albert and Eugene Flippin; three sisters, Effie Mae Smith, Minnie Luella Flippin and Lena P. Hicks; two sons, Hollis Witcher Jr. and Johnny Witcher. She is survived by her sons, Harold, Raymond (Debra), and Timothy (Cheryl) Witcher, Chattanooga; two brothers; Charles and Benjamin "Benny" Flippin, Chattanooga; four sisters, Helen Woodyard, LaGrange Ga., Louise Hubbard, Christine Barnes, both of Chattanooga, and Corrine Witcher, Chicago, Ill.; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as many dear family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, in the Chapel. Interment: National Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today, after which the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995
