Karen Edens

Karen Ramsey Edens died on June 28, 2015, at the age of 57. She was born in Chattanooga in 1957. She was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Ramsey. Karen graduated from East Ridge High School in 1975 and attended Chattanooga State Technical College. She married Bob Edens in 1996. Karen was a promising artist exhibiting her art all over the state of Tennessee. In her early twenties, her career was suddenly put on hold when a malignant brain tumor was discovered. During the surgery to remove the tumor, Karen suffered a stroke leaving her with several disabilities. Through tenacious hard work and with the love and support of her family she was able to regain her ability to draw and paint. Art was her constant companion for the remainder of her life. Karen was named North Georgias Professional Woman of the Year and honored as an Outstanding Artist by the Battlefield Pilot Club of Georgia. Karen Ramsey Edens award-winning artwork can be found in homes and businesses throughout the United States. She was quoted by a newspaper reporter, "An artist is the only thing Ive ever wanted to be." Karen was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Ramsey. She is survived by her husband, Bob Edens; mother, Sarah Ramsey; and sisters, JoAnn Cason (Roy), Kandy Boleman (Randy) and Pat Ramsey; nephews, Cain Collison (Stephanie), Joe Boleman and Robby Boleman; niece, Mindy Martin Berceli (Mike); great-nephew, Cole Berceli; and great-nieces, Lux and Emma Collison. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m. at East Ridge United Methodist Church, 1601 Prater Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412. Visitation of family and friends will precede the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Rev. Ken Sauer is officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to East Ridge United Methodist Church.
