Jimmie Brownsey

Jimmie Hope Slack Brownsey, 92, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord, Sunday night, March 22, 2015, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens. She was a native of Monroe County and longtime resident of McMinn County, and was the daughter of the late James Marion and Elizabeth Jackson Slack. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Brownsey; a son, Lt. Commander Thomas A. Brownsey; and a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Rankin Hudson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens and was a member of the Athens Garden Club. She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and taught school at Kirkman High School in Chattanooga for 20 years. She was a Broker with Hudson Real Estate for over 30 years, until her retirement. She later was associated with McMinn County Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Jim Fry, of Dunwoody, Ga., and Hope and Eddie Kirkland, of Brentwood, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Pat Brownsey of Ringgold, Ga., and Jim and Carol Brownsey, of Athens; six granddaughters, Holly Fry, Angela Brownsey Stone, Liane Brownsey, Madison Brownsey, Elizabeth Kirkland Burch and Katherine Kirkland; three grandsons, Tommy Fry, Sid Brownsey and Tab Brownsey Norris; and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today, March 25, 2015 at Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Collins and Carey Hicks.
