Martin Davis Sr.

Martin Henry Davis Sr., 83, died Saturday, March 28, 2015, after a brief illness in home hospice care. Born to Winnie Martin Davis and Linton Alexander Davis, he was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. Martin graduated from Tyner High School and the University of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his siblings and his wife of nearly 52 years, Martha. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Margaret Anne Rust of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sons, Martin (Carol) Davis Jr. of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Mark Davis of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jason (Nancy) Rust, Amanda (Derick) Whitt, and Martin Davis III; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Martin worked at the University of Chattanooga and then with his wife at Technical Laboratories Inc. He also supported his wifes passion for the Chattanooga Regional Science and Engineering Fair by donating his time, talent and materials. Martin was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for nearly 60 years, having joined the congregation prior to marrying Martha. He supported Marthas commitment to missions and evangelism in many ways most visibly by helping her pick up disadvantaged and underprivileged youth and taking them to various Second Presbyterian activities. The family wishes to give special thanks to Martins caregivers, Tara Horton, Jennifer Buie and Allison Ellis, and to Tandra Bell, RN, of Hospice of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, Chattanooga, with Diane W. Stocker, CRE, Parish Associate at Second Presbyterian and the Rev. James Davenport officiating. Visitation will be held at Second Presbyterian from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.. Interment will immediately follow the service in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, Bethel Bible Village, and Hospice of Chattanooga.
