Virginia Curvin

Virginia "Jenny" Josephine Lee Smedley Curvin reached the end of her almost 88 year walk Saturday, May 2, 2015, surrounded by people who loved her. Her life centered around her home and family, and she spoke her love in her own language - bowls of steaming butter beans, potato salad, hot biscuits, and cornbread; hot breakfasts on cold mornings and ever-present pots of coffee; popcorn and Kool-Aid outside in the swings on summer days; fresh, crisp sheets on the beds; thousands of loads of laundry washed, dried, and ironed; buttons that were always replaced, torn seams always mended; handmade clothes and beautiful crocheted and embroidered items that will be enjoyed by several generations, and those skills passed on to others; and by a fierce desire to build a God-centered home. She was born May 27, 1927. Those who finished their race before her include her husband, Garland B. Curvin; son, William Michael Smedley; father, Robert E. Lee; mother, Aubrey May Palmer Lee Blevins; sister, Meredith Collins; and brother, Lloyd Blevins. Those who remain to remember and celebrate her life include her daughter, Linda Curvin Davenport (Jim); son, Stan Curvin; son, Rick Curvin (Teresa); daughter-in-law, Glenda Smedley; grandchildren, Amy Stephens-Frizzell (Jason), Amy Davenport, Sarah Davenport, Zack Curvin, Matthew Curvin, Dylan Curvin, Chris Stampfli, Quentin Stampfli Stephanie Stampfli. Anthony Curvin, and Briana Curvin; great-grandchildren, Margot and Freya Frizzell and Sawyer Curvin; sister, Marcel Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved caregiver and friend, Patricia Wilson. Heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and Hospice of Birmingham for their care, compassion, and assistance. Jenny will be laid to rest with Garland at National Cemetery in Chattanooga. The family will hold a small, private service graveside. An open celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 6, from 58 p.m. at the Harrison Bay Recreation Hall, with a short presentation beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of Chattanooga or Hospice of Birmingham.
