Carl Drew

Carl Dean Drew, 82, died peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, surrounded by his family. Carl had battled declining health over the past several years, but thankfully is no longer suffering and is most likely fishing and gardening again with his new body in heaven. He was born on Aug. 21, 1933 in Wildwood, Ga., to the late Margaret Elizabeth Clement and James Walter Drew. Carl worked at North Georgia Electric for 41 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He began his career as a lineman and retired as a line foreman. Carl enjoyed fishing and camping on Weiss Lake in Alabama for many years. He was an amazing gardener that always grew enough vegetables to share with his neighbors, friends, and family. Carl also enjoyed grilling with barbeque chicken being his specialty. Carl was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His legacy will be the strong work ethic that he taught his family. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Carl is survived by his amazing and loving wife of 60 years, Alice Tate Drew; daughter, Sandra Drew Barton (John) of Fairmount, Ga.; Carla Drew Callaway (Matt) of Noblesville, Ind.; granddaughter, Sarah Barton Durden (Charlie) of Cumming, Ga.; grandson, John Robert Barton Jr. (fiancee, Molly Rodgers) of Fairmount, Ga.; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Callaway, of Noblesville, Ind.; great-granddaughter, Lilly Claire Durden, of Cumming, Ga.; brother, Roy Drew (Carolyn); sisters, Mary Jo Strickland, Thelma Casey, and Frances Guffey; special nephew, Wesley Drew; extended family, Cary and Darlene Parrish. The family also appreciates the wonderful care that he received from the nursing and respiratory care staff at CHI Memorial Hospital.
