Thelma Albert

Thelma Albert, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at her home, Aug. 25, 2015, with family at her side. She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. She graduate from Howard High School in 1966. She attended Tennessee State University. Upon leaving Tennessee State, her work career involved many professional areas. She was one of the first female employees of Wheland Foundry and remained there for 24 years before the closing of the company. She refused to sit down and rest. She then began another career at Erlanger Medical Center where she retired in 2013 after twelve years of dedicated service. There was not an individual who entered the hospital while she was there who was not greeted by her warm and genuine smile. She was a lifelong member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church. Her love for her church family always encouraged her to give generously from her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inman Sr. and Sarah Montgomery; her brothers, Inman Jr., Charles, Grover, Willie; and one nephew, Charles Corey. She is survived by her loving daughter, Andrea; her devoted son, David; her three grandsons, who were the apple of her eye, Cameron, Donte, Ahmand, of Miami, Fla.; her dedicated sister and caregiver, Reatha Montgomery, Hampton, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Linda Montgomery, Las Vegas, Nev.; Bonnie Montgomery, Chattanooga, and Lillie Montgomery, San Antonio, Texas; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an abundance of dedicated friends from her professional as well as neighborhood communities. Throughout her courageous battle, many were inspired by her level of perseverance; especially her caregivers. The family is forever grateful to Jennifer, Annie Mae, Joanne, the staff of Amedisys Home Healthcare and Hospice of Chattanooga for their professional level of support and care. Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 3, at St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Church as the eulogist. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today, the family will receive friends this evening from 78 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
