Ada Smith

Ada Edwards Smith, 86, of Chattanooga, went home to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015. Ada was born in Madison, Ala., on Feb. 16, 1929 to the late Wiley and Ada Vaughn Edwards. At a young age, the family moved to Chattanooga where she attended Chattanooga public schools and graduated from Howard High School, class of 1949. She worked at Parkwood Nursing Home and retired from Erlanger Medical Center after many years of giving loving care to mothers of new born babies. She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church until her illness. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Smith, Chattanooga, Jacquelyn (Elbert) Simmons, Riverdale, Ga.; son, Gregory Smith, Chattanooga; three grandchildren; brother, Willie Mack Edwards; sister, Celia Bloodsaw; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. The family extends special thanks to staff members at Health Center of Standifer Place, various Ministries at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church and Reach and Touch and Faith & Charity Ministries at New United Baptist Church and many, many friends for your kindness and prayers. Visitation will be this evening from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church. Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens East. Public viewing will begin after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
