Ralph Newby

Ralph A. Newby, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Born in Spring City, Ralph was the son of the late George Waverly and Alice Simpson Newby. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Ralph retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He and his wife, Joyce, moved from Elyria, Oh., to the Spring City community 33 years ago. Ralph was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Spring City and the American Legion Post #203. He loved to camp, fish and travel. Ralph was preceded in death by his brothers, Waverly, Earl Liner, Howard and James Newby; and sisters, Helen Lee and Bessie Roberts. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce Brown Newby, of Spring City; daughter, Vicki Lottman, of Elyria, Oh.; sons, Ron (Terry) Newby, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and David Newby, of Elyria, Oh.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Claude Pendergrass and Rev. Andy Miles officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Vaughn Funeral Home, Spring City is in charge of arrangements.
