Arden DeVaughn

Arden Anthony (Tony) DeVaughn, 59, was born on April 24, 1957, in Chattanooga. He entered into eternal peace on Dec. 4. 2016. Tony was in the class of 1975 at Riverside High School. He was a lifetime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was employed as a code enforcement inspector for the City of Knoxville. Tony was a skilled contractor, a lover of dogs and reptiles. Table tennis,cycling, billiards and basketball were a few of his favorite hobbies that he enjoyed in his spare time. He enjoyed people and fun conversations. Those who knew him well knew he would take on a challenge and he fought for what he believed in. He taught himself to play the keyboard so he could surprise his mom with a song on Mother’s Day. He not only followed through with surprising his mom on Mother’s Day but also played at the service for her homecoming to glory. In his final days, Tony’s love for music, playing the keyboard and his unwavering faith in God gave him comfort. Prior to passing Tony stated, “I love my family on both sides of the track, I love my children and my grandchildren, and nothing hurts me more than hurting my family.” Tony’s strength, courage, stubbornness, wit, and wisdom will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Charles DeVaughn; and mother, Myrtle DeVaughn; grandfather, Frank Hill; grandmother, Flora Lee Hill; and grandmother, Johnny Mae Star. He was married to Crystal DeVaughn. He is survived by his three sons, Demetrise Pinkerton, of Atlanta, Ga., Corey and Tiffany DeVaughn, of Atlanta, Ga., Antonio DeVaughn, of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Corey DeVaughn Jr., Antonio DeVaughn Jr., Mckenzie DeVaughn, Addison DeVaughn, Justin Sinclair-Pinkerton, Alyssa DeVaughn; brothers, Ronald DeVaughn, of Ontario, Calif., Mark DeVaughn, of Chattanooga; and sister, Karen DeVaughn Tillison, of Apison, Tenn., and his nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives. Our father’s closing words were "I will see you in the morning, I am just resting..." unit that day Dad you will be missed! The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Orchard Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church 951 N Orchard Knob Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37406. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 8, 2016, at Orchard Park Seventh-Day Adventist. The burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens 5351 TN-153 Hixson, TN 37343. The arrangements are held by Chattanooga Funeral Home.
