Jerry Doss Sr.

Jerry Arthel Doss Sr., 67, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the Tennessee Veterans Home, Murfreesboro. A veteran, Mr. Doss served in the United States Army, the Tennessee National Guard and the United States Air Force. He served his country in Vietnam, earning many Meritorious Service Medals. He later was able to spend a month in Germany, where he helped build communication towers for the Army National Guard. Upon his return, he returned to work for the Chattanooga Paper Board, where he retired after 35 years of employment. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Doss was well-known in his local community as the owner of the "lemon truck." He was preceded in death by his wife, Jevota Ann Henry Doss; father, John William Doss; mother, Mary Elizabeth Holliday Shaffer; brother, Joel Wayne Doss Sr. Left to cherish his memory is one son, Jerry Arthel Doss Jr. (Angie Easterly Doss); two grandchildren, Madison Mikyla Curtis and Jessie James Curtis; sisters, Mary Evelyn Sims, Debbie Inez Rankin; three brothers, Anthony Lee Shaffer, Robert Malcom Shaffer and Hoyt Keith Shaffer; along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. CST Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Collier Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Visitation is Monday 4-8 p.m. CST. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations be made in honor of Mr. Doss to the Daus Community Center, 3838 State Route 28, Dunlap, TN 37327.
