Joyce Bownds

Joyce Bownds PIKEVILLE Joyce "Honey" Forbes Bownds, local radio personality and visual artist bid farewell on Jan. 31, 2016. Formerly of Chattanooga, Honey was born in Pearland, Texas, on Oct. 6, 1934. She once resided in Houston and Alvin, Texas, as well as Guadalajara, Mexico, and finally Pikeville. Her artwork has been on display at galleries throughout Mexico, Texas and Tennessee. Due to macular degeneration, she developed a new technique of art which recently has received much acclaim in the Chattanooga galleries. As owner and morning personality of WUAT Radio in Pikeville, she received many accolades for her unique local programming. Thanks to the Internet, WUAT became a sensation in Australia. She continued to broadcast until malady stilled her voice. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, E. W. Forbes Sr. and Virginia Triplett Forbes Tomlin; siblings, E.W. Forbes Jr., Edna Mae Bates Forbes, Roy L. Tomlin; and child, Stephen E. Bownds. Her family audience members are her husband, Dr. Charles P. Bownds, of Pikeville; children, Joy (Michael) Weiner, of Alvin, Texas, Belinda Gomes, of Miami, Fla., Charles M. (Trish) Bownds, of Bronson, Texas, and John Bownds, of Huntsville, Ala.; siblings, Edward A. Forbes, of Angleton, Texas, Larry (Judy) Donnis Tomlin, of West Columbia, Texas; Doyce E. Tomlin, Houston, Texas; and Teddie D. Tomlin, of Seguin, Texas. In the balcony, are numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens. Memorial service will be conducted at United Methodist Church, Pikeville, Tenn., on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at 2 p.m. CST.
