George Birch

George Stanley Birch, 94, of Chattanooga, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. He was born in Vineland, N.J., to the late George and Ethel Birch. George served in the United States Army Air Corps and later retired from Baptist Mid-Missions as a missionary and educator after 40 years of service. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Birch; sister, Betty Toms; and brothers, John, Ellis and Herb Birch. Survivors include his children, Nancy (Mark) Longnecker of Chattanooga, John (Bonnie) Birch of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brothers, Robert Birch of Macon, Ga., Doug Birch of Asheville, N.C.; eight grandchildren,; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family deeply appreciates the wonderful care by Visiting Angels and Hospice of Chattanooga caregivers. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Stanley Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Baughman officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stanley Heights Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 1512 McBrien Road, East Ridge, TN 37412. Arrangements are by W.L.
