Janie Massey

Janie Sue Massey, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, in a local healthcare facility. Ms. Massey was born July 26, 1929, in Chattanooga to the late Joseph William Massey and Edith Cox Massey. A graduate of Central High School and Carson-Newman College, she received her Masters degree in Elementary Education from Middle Tennessee State University. Ms. Massey taught in several Hamilton County Schools throughout her teaching career that spanned 38 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a world traveler, having visited 44 states and 26 countries. Among her many talents, she was a gifted soloist and played the organ, harp and piano at Northside Baptist Church and various other churches and civic events. Her sisters, Helen Ferguson and Jo Ann Liner, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sister, Lois Kathleen Crowe of Chattanooga; nephew, Scott (Kathleen) Liner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; niece, Stephanie (Ed) Sanchez of Dallas, Texas; great-nephew, Cameron (Sarah) Liner of Boston, Mass.; great-niece, Karlee Liner of Oklahoma City; great-great nephew, Nolan Liner of Boston. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Hamilton Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Liner officiating. A private burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
