George Sherrill

George Sherrill, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga. A native of Atlanta, Ga., he was a graduate of E. Rivers School, Atlanta, The Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va. and The University of Virginia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from The Trust Co. of Georgia and SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, Ga. George was a lifelong Episcopalian, an easy going, happy man who made friends easily. He was an avid golfer since the age of 10 and a hiker to many parts of North America, Canada, Europe and New Zealand. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Marie Lynah Sherrill; and brother, James Lynah Sherrill. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Claire Gardner Sherrill, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; two sons, Rev. George Sherrill (Rev. Karen), of Huntington, W.Va., and Robert Gardner (Dannie)Sherrill, of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandsons, George, Henry, Iain, R.G., and Charlie. Disposition of ashes will occur this summer on his favorite trail in Western North Carolina.
