Atlas Mealer

Atlas Wilburn Mealer, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the age of 93. He was born on May 9, 1923, the son of the late Lucy Payne Mealer of Signal Mountain. Mr. Mealer lived the majority of his life in the Signal Mountain area. During WWII he served under General George Patton in the 9th Air Force within the European Theatre. He was a member of Guiding Light Church and retired from Rockwell, a division of Boeing Aircraft, after 25 years of service in quality control. Mr. Mealer had the ability to play any instrument that had strings. He entertained regularly at the Signal Mountain Civic League for over 20 years and enjoyed singing in all the regional nursing homes. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Stewart Mealer; as well as a sister, Adilee M. Hudson. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Burgan and Faye Mealer, of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren and spouses, Stephanie and Mark Buese, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Adrian and Lisa Mealer. of Dallas, Texas; and close friend, Linda Stovall. A funeral service to commemorate his life will be conducted at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016, in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Vernon Sneed officiating and special guest speakers, Rev. Kenneth Essex and Brother Randolph Pigg. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
