Lucy Barnes

Lucy Barnes, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2016. She was born in Simsbury, Conn., on Aug. 27, 1932, the youngest of five children. She studied Math Education at the University of Tennessee, where she met her late husband, Milton Barnes. She resided in Falling Water for over 30 years before splitting time between her homes in Jasper, Ga., and St. Petersburg, Fla. She loved the ocean and the mountains equally, enjoying nature in every season and visits from many friends and family. It did not take much to make Lucy smile and she lived her life mostly in a state of gentle happiness. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and playing cards, all aspects of nature and taking walks on a daily basis. Although she lost her beloved husband 20 years ago, she remained fiercely independent, traveling the world and visiting with friends and family. She was always the life of the party, laughing, joking and simply enjoying life. So it is time to say goodbye to our beloved Lucy. To know her was to love her. Although our hearts are breaking, we will always remember the lovely person you were and celebrate the life that you loved. She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Spear; son-in-law, Peter Smith; and her three grandchildren, Jay Spear, Sarah Smith and Carly Smith. A memorial service to celebrate Lucys life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home from 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016. Arrangements by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tenn.
